Laughter is the Best Medicine
January 11, 2023
Laughter and companionship are priceless medicines that have so much power to heal. Laughter eases tension and relaxes the body, making it beneficial for your emotional and physical well-being. We believe in lots of laughter at Veranda Gardens because it brings balance to our residents' lives. We consider it an antidote to the stress in the world today and share it wholeheartedly with all that reside with us.
Roarie, known as "Chi Chi" to many, has been a resident at Veranda Gardens for two years. Before moving into Veranda Gardens, Chi Chi lived with her mother, whom she was very close to for 60 years. After her mother's passing, Chi Chi became ill and required frequent hospitalizations. It was at that point her family realized that living alone was no longer an option. She needed some extra care and medical attention. It was a decision they made without regret, and she has happily resided with us ever since.
To say that she has "fit" into her surroundings here would be an understatement. Chi Chi states,
"The staff here is more like family, and I love them dearly." She jokingly claims Shawn, our Maintenance Director, as her "husband" at the facility, Louise, who has become her best friend, as her "daughter" and Brittany, the Administrator, as her "granddaughter." She loves having her nails done by the Administrator on Nail Day and the wonderful care she says she receives from the staff members. Chi Chi shared,
"I feel comfortable here. My room is great and I have space for my family to visit. I'm happy!"
We're looking forward to the new year with all of our residents and Chi Chi using her humor to inspire those around her! Her laughter is good medicine for the soul!
